Week ending 5/7/10

We're winding down as we near the end of the school year. As many of you know, I'll be retiring this year. It's been such a pleasure to have worked in our district for 21 years. I've met so many wonderful students, parents, staff. I look forward to many more years keeping in contact with these friends that I've made.
We'll be playing softball, finishing fitness testing, and playing some generic games to wind out the year. Track and field will be a bonus!
Stay active, stay healthy.

Week ending 4/30/10

We took advantage of the warm weather and dry fields and ran the mile, 1/2 mile for 3rd grade. Of course, some students love it and others find the challenge way too great. Students really feel a great sense of accomplishment when completed. I'm so very proud of them.
Recreational games is complete and written tests were handed back.
Intramural hockey for 3rd and 5/6th grade students is well underway. We have a great group of students playing and many really close games.
Stay active, stay healthy.

Week ending 4/16/10

We actually made it outdoors a few days this past week. It felt excellent. If the weather stays warm enough, we have great plans for our remaining weeks at school - track and field, fitness tests(includes running the mile) and softball. Still in the works for indoors is our conclusion of the recreational games unit, and our indoor version of what we'd rather be doing outdoors.
Stay active, stay healthy.

Week ending 4/9/10

Wow. The time certainly has been flying by. Our Spring Break came and was over before I can imagine. Now that we're back at school, we've been playing recreational games. It's great because there are so many new things to introduce to the students. We change activities every few days and are still going strong. Hopefully the weather will warm up soon and we'll be able to alternate by having some outdoor activites as well.
Stay active, stay healthy.

Week ending 3/19/10

We finished our hockey unit this week with a written test. Most students did quite well on their test.
Next week we will begin a recreational games unit. There are so many different activities that we learn and play. Lots of fun. Hopefully the weather will get warm again and the fields will dry out soon, so that we can get outdoors. That's my favorite place to be!
If your children are interested in playing intramural floor hockey, permission slips have been given out for grades 3, 5 and 6. They need to be turned in before spring break so that we can distribute a schedule upon our return. Grade 4 is concluding their floor hockey intramurals. It was great.
Stay active, stay healthy.

Week ending 3/5/10

I can't believe it! The weather has finally broken for a while. It's so nice to actually see the sun, the children outdoors for recess, and some warmer temperatures (40 seems warm to me).
In the gym we have been playing some lead up games for floor hockey. There are so many different ways to play - floor hockey, street hockey, ice hockey, field hockey. We will play rgular games next week and will play by the official floor hockey rules. It's great.
Have a great weekend - stay active, stay healthy.

Week ending 2/26/10

It seemed like such a long week. Students have been kept indoors during recess due to the wind chill. Wow. Hopefully they'll be able to get out over the weekend and next week.
We concluded our dance unit and will be on floor hockey next week. Many 5th grade students have been asking about floor hockey intramurals. A permission slip will go out in 2 weeks and we will begin playing right after our spring break. We'll play after school and there is no fee to participate - the more students the merrier.
Stay active, stay healthy. Enjoy the long weekend.
