HELP WANTED

Following our winter break, we will begin our roller skating unit. What fun! It is always helpful for us to have parents helping to tie roller skates for those students having difficulty. Our 3rd graders, in particular, are rather needy. All parents are always welcome, but we would be most grateful if you could help us out for this unit. We begin skating on 1/8 and continue until 1/22. Any times you can donate would be appreciated. If you can come in, please let your child's classroom teacher know, or you can e-mail me directly at tstainman@ccsd66.org. Thanking you in advance.
Have a wonderful holiday season.

Bowling

We've been having so much fun this week bowling. Picture this - we actually have 12 lanes set up in the gym. It sounds like a real bowling alley! Upon completion, we will be attending AMF Lanes in Bolingbrook. If you student hasn't turned in his/her permission slip, please remind them to bring it in. We must have a parent/guardian signature on file in order for your child to attend.
Please remind your child also to remember they need gym shoes daily in order to participate in physical education class. Boots are needed to play in the snow, but cannot be used in the gym.
Thanks
Enjoy the weekend. Playing in the snow is a great way to get your daily 30 min. of exercise.

Climbing the walls

This past week we've been literally climbing the walls in the gym. Students have been on our transverse climbing wall and loving every minute of it. It's hard work! But, also lots of fun.
Next week we will begin another of our favorite units - bowling. We transform the gym into our own lanes. We set up 12 lanes, learn how to bowl, and practice before our field trip to AMF Lanes in Bolingbrook. This has become an annual event that the students enjoy immensely. If your student hasn't turned in his/her permission slip, please urge them to do so quickly. Can't find yours? There's a copy on the district web cite under permission slips.
Remember - staying physically active is healthy - at least 30 minutes/day.

MISC.

Thank you, again, to all those families who supported the p.e. fund raiser by either buying, selling, encouraging students in the district who worked so very hard. Our top seller here at Prairieview was Jeannie Linde. Congratulations to her.
Please remember to check your children's gym shoes for safety. The girls' style of ballet type shoes or casual wear are not safe for our p.e. class. They fail to give proper support and do not have a lot of rubber on the bottom, if someone were to step on something sharp outdoors.
After Thanksgiving we will be climbing on our horizontal wall in the gym and will also be bowling. As a culminating activity, we will actually go to a bowling alley to try out our expertise.

A WORD ABOUT SAFETY AND GYM SHOES

Hi. This is just a reminder that safety is a primary concern in the gym. We have some students, actually girls, who wear shoes that are not considered safe gym shoes. The "ballerina" style or "casual wear" shoes do not give the proper support for the many activities that we do in our physical education classes. Old safe gym shoes are preferred over new shoes that aren't as safe.
Thank you for your continued support over the years.

Halloween

Happy Halloween to all.
Our P. E. and athletic annual fund raiser is now complete. Fast, wasn't it? We're tallying up the totals and are anxious to purchase new equipment with our proceeds. Thank you to all who purchased, sold, and helped your children with our sale.
Remember, staying active is healthy!

FROM THE GYM

This week we are having our kick off for the annual athletic department fund raiser. District students in grades 5 – 8 are able to participate, with all profits benefiting the physical education department and athletics. This year we will be selling Tasty Batters Cookie Dough and Great American Discount Cards. Our profits were excellent last year, and we're hoping for a repeat.
